I paint to mirror the world, to draw connections between the big and small, the interior and exterior, the dark and light, using close observation as a guide to these connections. Painting is a dance, a physical experience of my internal and external rhythms and melodies that are captured in the finished piece. I am never sure what music I will be responding to or how the painting will look when completed. I am sure my work feels honest and genuine when I let the paint take the lead and I am able to avoid stepping on its feet.
"The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled. Each evening we see the sun set. We know that the earth is turning away from it. Yet the knowledge, the explanation, never quite fits the sight.”
